get away: Tips for a Successful Trip to Disney with Young Kids

It has been almost a decade since our first trip to Disney World. After dozens of visits, we’ve learned so much about making those magical moments even more special. Whether you’re a seasoned Disney traveler or gearing up for your first adventure, I’ve got some tips and tricks to share that might just make your trip a little smoother.

  1. First things first—don’t overwhelm yourself on the first day. We made that mistake early on by trying to cram in too much. Picture this: Magic Kingdom all day, followed by a fancy dinner reservation and a tea party. Sounds dreamy, right? We did tis our first trip and it was Mel-down city. Now, we ease into our trips, keeping it light and flexible on day one.

  2. Kids’ interests can change trip to trip, so don’t be surprised if what they loved last time isn’t their top priority this visit. Our kids went from character crazed to thrill ride enthusiast practically overnight! Character dining is completely off their radar now, so we spend our time hitting the rides they love.

  3. One big lesson learned: hold off on the souvenir shopping spree until the end of your trip. Trust me, hauling stuffed animals and trinkets around the parks gets old fast. Now, we give our kids Disney Gift Cards with a set spending limit, saving the splurges for the last few days.

  4. If you have younger kids, you may want to make naptime non-negotiable. Planning breaks for the littles means fewer meltdowns.

  5. Investing in Memory Maker has been a game changer for capturing those picture-perfect moments. Disney photographers are everywhere, ready to snap photos that will make you smile for years to come. And don’t forget to ask for a Magic Shot—it’s those little surprises that make the memories truly unforgettable!

  6. Strollers are a lifesaver, no matter the age of your child. We just stopped bring a stroller for seven-year-old. It’s also a great place for them to catch a nap while you enjoy some adult time!

  7. Florida weather can be unpredictable, so be prepared for anything from sunny shorts weather to chilly evenings. And a rain jacket or poncho is a must-have—it’s saved us from more than a few soggy days!

  8. Consider splurging on Park Hopper tickets. Being able to hop between parks gives you the flexibility to catch that must-see show or indulge in a favorite meal without feeling rushed.

  9. Planning is key to a successful Disney trip. From Genie+ to dining reservations, a little preparation goes a long way. And timing matters—avoiding peak seasons can make a world of difference in crowd levels and overall enjoyment.

  10. Lastly, start the excitement early! Disney trips are a big deal, so why not build anticipation with countdowns and surprise reveals? It’s all part of the fun!

Whether you’re planning your tenth trip or your very first, I hope these tips help make your Disney adventure as magical as can be. If you have any questions or want to swap stories, I’d love to chat!
